| Carbon accounting market study |
IFC-D has launched a major European study (covering 27 countries) aimed at strengthening professional training in carbon accounting and low-carbon strategy development.
This initiative seeks to support companies and institutions in meeting emerging requirements from regulatory and voluntary frameworks such as the CSRD, SBTi, CDP, ISO 14064, and others.
Led by François Kornmann, President of the IFC-D, and Jacques Aflalo, Associate Director for Development, this in-depth study examines how organizations across Europe are preparing professionals to meet growing expectations around climate reporting and organizational carbon footprint assessment.
The goal is to assess how effectively businesses and professionals are being trained to measure and reduce the carbon footprint of organizations, projects and products.
This European project aims to:
- Map existing methodologies and tools used in carbon accounting across different countries,
- Analyze the current landscape of professional training in carbon accounting and low-carbon strategy development
- Identify gaps and opportunities for improvement in existing training programs
- Evaluate the readiness of businesses to comply with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), with particular focus on ESRS E1 (climate-related disclosure requirements), including the VSME Basic Module – B3 (Energy and GHG Emissions) and the Comprehensive Module – C3 (GHG Reduction Targets and Climate Transition Planning).
As part of this project, we are currently conducting both qualitative and quantitative research. The findings will provide valuable insights into:
The evolution of training systems in Europe in response to climate challenges and regulatory requirements.
The expectations and motivations of future learners regarding low-carbon strategy training.
